Southern Expressway Duplication Project

  • Client: Baulderstone

Following on from Caledonia’s success at Port Bonython Jetty, Baulderstone engaged Caledonia to assist with construction works on the Southern Expressway Duplication Project.

The $407.5 million duplication of the Southern Expressway is a key part of the development of Adelaide’s north-south corridor and, when complete, will deliver an 18.5-kilometre multi-lane, two-way expressway between Bedford Park and Old Noarlunga by mid-2014.

Numerous scaffolds have been erected and dismantled, including four free-standing towers at Smith Creek Bridge with an approximate height of 24m weighing 90 tonnes. These scaffolds were designed by our in-house design team. As with the Urban Superway, most of the scaffold was erected in the vicinity of free-flowing traffic. In September 2012 Caledonia’s achievements were acknowledged in the form of a safety award and recognition for ‘thinking outside the box’.
