March has been another fantastic month for us at Caledonia Group. We have continued to grow in strength with our addition of new personnel to our Sales Team. We also touched base with our German supplier, Layher. Our teams in New Zealand and Australia have undertaken some interesting (and challenging) projects, and in South Australia, we’ve continued to sponsor our local community.
We’re investing in our Sales Team!
Our business team is growing and we’d like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new employees: Kane Rogers, Joe Goffredo, Ian Miller, and Cathal Quinn.
Kane Rogers has joined us as our Business Development Associate for New Zealand. Most recently, he worked with Higgins Coatings, and he brings with him a number of potential contacts in the Auckland market.
Joe Goffredo has also started in his position with us as a Business Development Associate in South Australia and has hit the ground running.
In order to support the growth of our Business Development Personnel, we’ve also employed additional Estimators in Western Australia and South Australia.
Ian Miller joins the South Australian team, while Cathal Quinn joined the Western Australian office.
Ian, who recently moved to Adelaide, has many years experience in the scaffolding industry both in the United Kingdom and in New Zealand.
Cathal is adept in estimating both scaffolding and cladding works. His skills will play an essential part in the growth of our services across the country.
The addition of new personnel to our Sales Team further consolidates our commitment to Caledonia’s long-term growth and strategic business plan.
Welcome aboard guys!
Exciting things are happening in South Australia
We’ve had some interesting projects in Adelaide. Some of them gave us a good challenge. But there’s nothing too difficult for our expert teams here at Caledonia Group.
Adelaide Fringe Festival
Festival season is upon us here in Adelaide!
We were fortunate to capture a showcase project at the heart of the CBD. The Adelaide Fringe required three 7 metre towers clad in colourbond for a laser show presentation for the Festival’s ‘Borealis’ opening parade. The towers’ appearance had to be sympathetic to the heritage surroundings. They were also designed to blend in with the night sky, to optimise the effect of the lasers.
The project was a challenging one because of its location in the heart of the CBD and the high volume of pedestrian traffic. The museum (which is pictured above) had to be open throughout the build process. This added to the sensitivity of the job.
The whole build was completed on time, despite the very short turnaround time required from the client. The client was delighted with the outcome of the project and gave high praise to all members of the crew.
Great job guys!
West Franklin Apartments
Speaking of working in the CBD, we recently won a package of work on the West Franklin Apartments building. The twenty-storey block required an innovative solution to its access problem from the eleventh floor to the twentieth floor.
Our design team developed a craneable solution to allow access to three independent floor levels at any given time.
The staircase was built in the yard, before it was topped up on site, and fitted into position.
Gone racing! Gawler Harness Racing Club
We were asked to come up with a temporary design for the Judges Tower: a commentary/TV stand at the new Gawler Harness Racing Track. The project was a little left field, but we were excited about it because it gave us the chance to applying our skills to something different.
Our challenge was to provide two platforms within a weatherproof structure, whilst allowing for a full visual coverage of the track.
We built the structure within the allocated timeframe and our client was very delighted with the end results.
Our design worked brilliantly during the opening race meeting. As a result of its success, it will become a long-term feature at the racetrack.
Here’s some feedback from the client:
I just wanted to thank you for your assistance with the construction of the Judges Tower at the Gawler Harness Racing Club.
The temporary tower was ideal for what was required and everything went off without a hitch on the day.
Your prompt response to our request for installation was appreciated and I believe the tower will be a long-term arrangement.
Once again I would like to thank you and your team for all their great work.

Our New Zealand team is working on the Auckland Harbour Bridge
We currently have a team of five Caledonia employees working on the Auckland Harbour Bridge. While the logistics of getting the scaffolding to the work face has proved to be quite challenging, the team, led by Rufo Fajardo and supervised by Julian Pardoe are ahead of their targets. They have also formed a great relationship with the client.
Keep up the good work, guys!
Lithium is the new gold in Western Australia!
Our team recently completed the build on Pilgangoora and received praise from CSI and Pilbara Minerals.
Our client, RC Construction, is working for CSI to build the new Lithium mine at Pilgangoora, which is located one hour south of Port Hedland. The mine for Pilbara Minerals will be one of the biggest Lithium mines in the Pilbara. We were referred to provide Scaffolding & Access for the construction of the Conveyor Trestle foundation, to tie steel, access shutters, and pour the concrete. Alex Duffy was Caledonia’s Leading Hand on site.
Since it is cyclone season in the region, the scaffold was designed so it wouldn’t have to be de-boarded in the event of a cyclone. We were able to do this by using Layher.
We received an email from the CSI and the Pilbara Minerals Safety Teams, complementing our work ethic and job set up from the start to build completion. The scaffold now stands at 14 metres.
Great work to all the crew.
Layher comes to town…
We recently received a visit from our German supplier, Layher.
Layher’s director, Georg Layher, and his team provided us with an update on future advancements in technology, which will add another point of difference to the Layher system.
In return, Caledonia’s Design Engineer, Jonathan Blanes, presented the Layher team with some examples of our in-house capabilities on current projects across Australia and New Zealand such as the one below:
The feedback from Layher was excellent and they positioned Caledonia at the forefront of the market.
We’re sponsoring growth in our South Australian community
Caledonia Group is proud to announce that we will be the main sponsor for Cumberland United Soccer Club for the 2018 Season.
We have been affiliated with Cumberland for several years through our support of the Junior Program and our providing of scaffold gantry for match day video and commentary.
This year, we’ve further established our relationship with the club by becoming the main sponsor for 2018. 2018 is also a significant year for the club as it celebrates its 75th year.
Cumberland United play in the FFSA State League 1 and have had a successful start to the campaign. They are hoping to finish the season with promotion back into the FFSA Premier League.
Come on you Foxes!!
