Talk about a full-on start to 2019! We have been pretty busy here at Caledonia and loving every moment of it. Here’s just a few things we’ve been up to so far.
The orange overalls of the Caledonia crews have safely returned to work after the Christmas break.
January was a busy month for Caledonia in the Pilbara, with over 50 scaffolders and rope-access employees working on different projects throughout Port Hedland. Port Hedland is the largest bulk handling facility in the world.
Caledonia have been assisting the major engineering firms with maintaining wharfs, stackers, reclaimers and ship loaders throughout Port Hedland.
Caledonia Group are pleased to announce that we will be exhibiting at this year’s AOG, held at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre from 13th-15th March. Come and meet our industrial services representatives on stand N26.

SkyCity Casino Hansen Yuncken
Caledonia have made great use of the design and engineering capabilities of the Layher system to provide Hansen Yuncken with a supporting structure for its amenities block at the SkyCity Casino project in Adelaide. The structure needed to be adaptable to suit the irregular dimensions and terrain of the site.
Our engineers came up with a great solution which has proven to be a fantastic end product for Hansen Yuncken. This is part of the long-term schedule of works Caledonia have onsite as the SkyCity Casino develops into an iconic landmark on the Torrens Riverbank in Adelaide.
Birkenhead Shutdown, Adelaide Brighton Cement
Caledonia are delighted to be executing shutdown services for Adelaide Brighton Cement at their Birkenhead plant, north of Adelaide.
Pre-shut works commenced prior to Christmas, resulting in a day-night shift roster covering the main shutdown. Work fronts covered various areas of the plant including Kiln 4 and Cement Mill 7, with Caledonia providing up 25 scaffolders at peak.
To date, the shutdown has been executed to budget and incident free, with the crews having to endure some extreme temperatures. We thank them all for their efforts thus far.
Airedale Apartments, Arrow International
Creating a new multi-storey building in a restricted area always brings exciting challenges, and Arrow’s 18-level apartment project on Airedale Street, in the heart of Auckland’s CBD, is no different.
Caledonia have been engaged onsite throughout the project, and we have worked closely with Arrow to provide solutions for a number of unforeseen access requirements.
What a great sight to see the completion of the roof and podium slab being poured! Thanks to Glenn and all the Arrow team for the opportunity to work with Arrow on this landmark project
Puhoi to Warkworth, NX2 Group (Fletcher Acciona)
The Pūhoi to Warkworth project will extend the four-lane Northern Motorway (SH1) 18.5km from the Johnstone’s Hill Tunnels to just north of Warkworth. It is the first stage of the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Wellsford Road of National Significance. It will be open for traffic by late 2021. Caledonia NZ have been providing scaffolding and access solutions since the project commenced back in 2018. The picture shows the steel fixers form install access which was erected at Puhoi Pier B and is the second section of the pier build. Our engineering team have assisted in providing solutions-based designs to the NX2 team as the project and work scopes have developed, as in the case of the Perry Road underpass. We look forward to continuing to work with NX2 throughout the life of this project and congratulate the Caledonia crews who have worked on the project thus far.
We’re not afraid to show our crew and clients some love. We want to thank you all for your hard work and cooperation, and hope you enjoyed your Valentine’s Day!
