4.9 Million Man Hours Lost Time Injury Free: Our Continued Commitment to Extensive Safety Measures

What is a Lost Time Injury (LTI)?

An LTI in the construction sphere is defined as an illness or injury that occurs whilst at work and results in the employee having to miss a minimum of one day’s work due to it. Working in an industry that often requires extensive physical labour, it is vital that we are constantly exercising safe workplace practices and ensuring that our staff are up to date on all safety training and regulations.

This metric allows us to track the success of our injury prevention strategies and assess what areas require improvement. Alongside ensuring the safety of our staff, this metric is a useful tool for tracing the factors that may contribute to lost productivity on site. Caledonia also has a strong incident and injury reporting system that all supervisors are required to undergo training in and complete refreshers when required. We always strive to strongly guarantee that all of our safety in-place safety measures are effective and efficient.

The Importance of Maintaining Zero LTI’s:

As mentioned, the wellbeing of our staff is always the first priority for our company. We are constantly on the lookout for improvement opportunities in all of our practices to ensure that we are providing the best support and working environments that we can to our team. Studies suggest that when job satisfaction is high, there is less likelihood for noncompliance with rules and regulations and therefore a decreased chance of any on-site injuries occurring.

Lost or reduced site productivity is often a by-product of LTI’s due to the increased downtime as the injured worker(s) recover. As a group, our teams across Australia and New Zealand are constantly striving to meet completion deadlines and guarantee client satisfaction. On top of employee safety, zero LTI’s are so important to us because of our commitment to providing uninterrupted operations.

Our strong safety record reflects our dedication to protecting not only our workers, but also environment we are working in. We guarantee that our construction and scaffolding follow every safety procedure, meets every requirement, and complies with all industry regulations.

One of Caledonia’s high priority goals promises to “foster and grow a positive safety, quality, and environmental culture”. Our business and our actions reflect our dedication to remaining a safety-forward company.

What We’re Doing in the Safety Sphere:

Our commitment to safety is the leading force behind our company and our team members. We are constantly dedicated to improving our selves by implementing compulsory comprehensive training for all of our site staff. This is integral to ensuring that they are going into any new project or jobsite with safety at the forefront of their minds.

We implemented a detailed incident and injury reporting scheme on not only our project sites, but also our offices and yards. We are aware that injuries can happen anywhere and are working tirelessly to ensure that we are providing the safest possible work environments. We have established safety committees who assess the conditions of the offices and yards to ensue that we are complying with all requirements and regulations.

Outside of the office, we conduct safety audits and inspections on each of our work sites to assess whether our team and our scaffolding are meeting standards and requirements. We are dedicated to protecting our staff and our clients and are happy to implement any safety measures that can prevent injury or illness.

Our managers and supervisors lead the way in safety prioritistation and are extensively trained in risk assessment and management, combined with their safety training.

The support and training systems that we currently have in place have effectively prevented us from obtaining any LTI’s since 2019, and we are officially 4.9 million man hours LTI free.
